Background
On the evening of April 24 and/or morning of April 25, 2024, the Boston Police Department (the “BPD”) removed and arrested protestors in and around the Boylston Place alleyway and Emerson College (the “Emerson Action”). The ACLU of Massachusetts subsequently filed a public records request to the BPD regarding the Emerson Action. This webpage will host all relevant correspondence and documents.

Background
In late 2021 and the spring of 2022, the ACLU of Massachusetts filed a series of public records requests to understand how the Massachusetts State Police (MSP) uses drones.
On December 14, 2021, we asked for communications, contracts, purchase agreements, invoices, records pertaining to the use of drones, and manuals, policies, and procedures. On May 10, 2022, we asked for records pertaining to any warrants obtained by MSP to use drones to conduct surveillance. On May 24, 2022, we asked for more records pertaining to the use of drones, including additional logs, notes, police reports, incident reports, intelligence reports, and other records that showed who operated or used drones, how and when, and for what reasons. On August 26, 2021, The ACLU of Massachusetts filed a public records request with the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) seeking information about the use of automation and artificial intelligence tools in the unemployment insurance identity verification process, including facial recognition technology.
