Police Campaign Donations in Massachusetts, 2010-2020

A project from Mijente, BU Spark!, and the ACLU of Massachusetts

Police reform and budgeting has become a high priority in Boston, across the Commonwealth, and nationally. However, engagement by police staff and their unions in state and local politics often acts as a obstacle to meaningful reform.

Click through the menu tabs to explore data on police-related donations to Mayor Walsh and to the Boston City Council from 2010 to 2020 (up to and including the most recent quarter filing).

About the Project

The Police in Politics project is a partnership between Mijente , BU Spark! , and the ACLU of Massachusetts to investigate police donations to Massachusetts politicians. It is supported by some great technical volunteers, including Steve Backman.

Please note that BU Spark! participates in this project as a technical partner, providing data processing and visualizations only, and that neither the lab nor the university necessarily endorses the political analysis of these data as interpreted by Mijente and ACLU-MA.

This project is ongoing. Check back later for further analysis of police donations to elected officials across Massachusetts.
